Data Centre of BlackBerry and Google in Indonesia


Government Regulation No. 82 Year 2012 on Implementation System and Electronic Transactions (PP PSTE) was signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) in October 2012 and then, the contents of "forcing" companies like BlackBerry and Google to put a data center in Indonesia.

As is known, the PP PSTE it is stated that the organizers of electronic systems for the public service obligation to put the data center and disaster recovery center in Indonesia. Under Law No. 25 of 2009 on Public Service and Government Regulation No. 96 of 2012 on the implementation of Law No. 25 of 2009, the two companies ie BlackBerry and Google, belong to the public service providers.

That is, all companies that include public service providers need to put data centers in Indonesia. "Throughout the BlackBerry and Google including the public service system, so they must build a physical data center in Indonesia," said Secretary General of Communication and Information Application Information General Djoko Harijadi in a discussion Opportunities Implementation Challenges & Opportunities Government Regulation No.82 Year 2012 PSTE in Jakarta, Tuesday (03/25/2013).

In addition to Google and BlackBerry, Over The Top players (OTT) such as Yahoo also had to put a data center in Indonesia in doing business. "When referring to Law No. 25 of 2009 on Public Service and Government Regulation Number 96 of 2012, OTT such as Google, and RIM (BlackBerry now) to get up the data center," said Djoko.

PP PSTE is the implementing regulations of Law No. 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE Law). 7 subject matter set forth in this PSTE PP is the implementation of electronic systems, the implementation of electronic transactions, electronic signatures, certification of electronic administration, electronic certification, and domain name management.

"The obligation to put data centers in Indonesia for the sake of law and provide protection to the data of citizens. Later further provisions regarding data center, will be further regulated by the relevant agencies and sectors," said Djoko.
