Thorough iPhone Intestinal Worms

Scientists use the iPhone to examine intestinal worms. Really?

As quoted from StraitsTimes, scientists are using the iPhone to a rural area in Tanzania: a new breakthrough that may aid physicians in treating patients who are infected with the parasite.

The study, published by the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene suggests that it may be cheaper to put the microscope into an iPhone, coupled with double-adhesive tape, flash light fixtures and a cheap camera lens.

The researchers used a microscope to examine the iPhone hookworm eggs and other parasites in children of patients.

"Previously there were many ideas on microscopy combined with the phone, but this is the first time it is realized," said Isaac Bogoch, a physicist from the Toronto General Hospital, who is also leader of the study.
